At JCRM, we have taken a very conservative approach to embryo genetic testing (CCS). Many programs have required all patients to do CCS as part of their IVF cycle and discard “abnormal” embryos. We have been wary because of the issue that occurred with the older day 3 procedures with a decrease in pregnancy rates. While the technology is very sexy and definitely amazing, it does not give us 100% accurate information and the theoretical issue of embryo healing whereby an abnormal embryo can “fix itself” along the way has been very concerning. Ethically as physicians we are directed to “do no harm.” Incorrectly discarding a potentially normal embryo is in our minds is the worst harm we could imagine. We are currently are evaluating this process in detail and constantly evaluating the world’s literature to make the best recommendations for this technology and the use of our IVF embryos.
